Flight school while earning a degree?
Im looking for a flight school where you can also earn your degree such as embry riddle or arizona state university east mesa school... only problem is that these schools want you to pay usually around an extra 30 grand on top of your intuition which is around 20 grand... so basically your looking at paying anywhere between 50-100 grand with everything.... What is a good school that has a very good price on both tuition and costs for flight school that doesnt make you want to consider joining the army instead becuase of the high costs? Also one more question... is helicopter flight schools usually the same price range vs fixed wing flight school + degree ?

If you want to learn to fly outside of the military, it is going to cost you some money. I currently am undergoing my flight training at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. It costs approx. $200 per flight hour, which includes plane rental, fuel, and instructor costs. While it may be cheaper to get training at a local FBO, SIU is one of the top flight schools in the country and has several ties with airlines who offer internships exclusively for SIU students (a great way to build a work relationship with a regional/major airline).

Flight school while earning a degree? Sure, but why don't you consider it the other way around? As in going to any college or university for a degree in any subject then doing your flight training on the side. Depending on how you go about it, you may find it far more affordable! Seek out a local flying club for the best rates. Many are non-profit run by members for members. http://www.landings.com/_landings/pages/flying_clubs.html OR if you simply must get an aviation degree, consider a program like ERAU Extended Campus. You can do just academics and take your flight training elsewhere for far less money than a campus ERAU education. I did ERAU Extended Campus for my degree after transfering from a community college and did my flying via a local affordable flying club. $aved a bundle! Re: helicopters. They are profoundly MORE expensive than fixed wing. My best friend is turbine helo pilot and did their fixed wing first as that time credits for the helo certificate and the hourly rate was substantially less expensive.
